Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Screwdriver set
    • Torque wrench
    • Multimeter
    • Trim removal tools
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent any electrical shorts.
2. Remove Steering Column Covers
  • Use a screwdriver to remove the screws securing the upper and lower steering column covers.
  • Carefully pry off the covers using trim removal tools, ensuring not to damage any clips.
3. Remove the Ignition Switch
  • Locate the ignition switch, which is typically mounted near the steering column.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition switch by pressing the release tab and pulling it out.
  • Remove the screws or bolts securing the ignition switch to the steering column using a socket set.
  • Slide the ignition switch out of its mounting position.
4. Install New Ignition Switch
  • Position the new ignition switch in place, ensuring it is aligned correctly with the mounting holes.
  • Secure the ignition switch using the screws or bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 7-10 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the electrical connector to the ignition switch.
5. Reassemble Steering Column Covers
  • Position the upper and lower steering column covers back in place.
  • Secure them with the screws removed earlier, ensuring a snug fit without over-tightening.
6. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Test the ignition switch by starting the engine and checking that all electrical accessories function properly.
