Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, ratchet, extension bar, spark plug socket, dielectric grease, clean rag, and OBD-II scanner.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts and ensure safety.
  • Allow the engine to cool down for at least 30 minutes before starting work.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Locate the engine cover and remove any fasteners securing it.
  • Lift the engine cover off and set it aside to access the ignition coils.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the release tab and pulling them off.
  • Remove the screws or bolts securing each ignition coil using the socket set.
  • Gently pull out the ignition coils to avoid damaging them.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket attached to a ratchet and extension to loosen and remove the old spark plugs by turning counterclockwise.
  • Carefully take out the spark plugs, ensuring no debris falls into the combustion chamber.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the threads of the new spark plugs to prevent seizing.
  • Insert the new spark plugs by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten them with the spark plug socket.
  • Torque the spark plugs to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 13 lb-ft, but check the service manual for exact values).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Reinstall the ignition coils by aligning them with the spark plugs and pushing them down firmly.
  • Secure them with screws or bolts and reconnect the electrical connectors.
7. Reattach Engine Cover
  • Place the engine cover back on and secure it with the previously removed fasteners.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
