Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool if it has been recently driven.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a floor jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which shock absorber is leaking.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure stability.
3. Remove the Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, torque wrench.
  • Remove the wheel on the side where the shock absorber is being replaced.
  • Locate the mounting bolts on the top and bottom of the shock absorber.
  • Using the socket set, remove the top mounting bolts first, followed by the bottom bolts.
  • Carefully remove the shock absorber from the mounting points.
4. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Torque wrench.
  • Position the new shock absorber in the same orientation as the old one.
  • First, install and hand-tighten the bottom mounting bolt, followed by the top mounting bolts.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque settings (typically found in the service manual).
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts in a crisscross pattern to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground.
  • Test the vehicle by pushing down on the front or rear to ensure the shock absorber functions correctly.
