Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the engine is off.
  • Wear safety goggles and gloves for protection.
2. Identify and Repair the Leak
  • Brake Line or Hose Replacement:

    1. Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
    2. Remove the wheel corresponding to the affected brake line or hose.
    3. Detach the brake line or hose using a line wrench, being careful to catch any leaking fluid.
    4. Install the new brake line or hose, ensuring proper routing and secure connections.
  • Caliper or Wheel Cylinder Replacement:

    1. Remove the wheel and caliper bolts.
    2. Slide the caliper off the rotor and inspect the caliper seals.
    3. If damaged, replace the caliper with a new unit.
    4. Reattach the caliper and tighten bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Master Cylinder Replacement:

    1. Disconnect the brake lines carefully using a line wrench.
    2. Remove the master cylinder mounting bolts.
    3. Replace with a new master cylinder, ensuring all seals are properly installed.
    4. Reconnect the brake lines and tighten securely.
3. Bleed the Brake System
  1. Fill the brake fluid reservoir with the appropriate brake fluid (DOT 3 or DOT 4).
  2. Begin bleeding at the wheel farthest from the master cylinder (usually the right rear) and work towards the closest (left front).
  3. Attach a clear tube to the bleeder screw and submerge the other end in a container with brake fluid.
  4. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal while you open and close the bleeder screw to expel air.
  5. Repeat until no air bubbles are visible in the fluid.
