Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all tools and parts needed for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface with the engine off.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues.
2. Remove Steering Rack
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, power steering line wrench.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels for easier access.
  • Disconnect the steering column from the steering rack by removing the retaining bolts.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines using a power steering line wrench, and cap the lines to prevent fluid spillage.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
  • Carefully slide the steering rack out of its mounting position.
3. Inspect and Replace Seals
  • Inspect the end seals of the steering rack for wear or damage.
  • If seals are damaged, replace them with new OEM or high-quality aftermarket seals.
  • Ensure that the replacement seals are lubricated before installation.
4. Reinstall Steering Rack
  • Slide the new or repaired steering rack back into its mounting position.
  • Reattach the mounting bolts and torque them to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 35-45 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the power steering lines securely, ensuring no cross-threading occurs.
  • Reattach the steering column to the steering rack.
5. Fill and Bleed Power Steering System
  • Refill the power steering fluid reservoir with the recommended fluid type (usually Honda PSF fluid).
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to bleed air from the system.
  • Check for leaks around the rack and lines after bleeding.
