Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: socket set, fluid catch pan, and a funnel.
  • Ensure that the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal for safety.
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  1. Remove the power steering fluid reservoir cap.
  2. Check the fluid level; if it’s low, proceed to add the correct type of power steering fluid.
  3. If the fluid appears dirty or contaminated, proceed to flush the system (see Step 3).
3. Flush Power Steering System (if necessary)
  1. Place a fluid catch pan under the power steering pump.
  2. Disconnect the return hose from the power steering pump.
  3. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to expel old fluid into the catch pan.
  4. Reconnect the return hose securely.
  5. Fill the reservoir with fresh power steering fluid to the appropriate level.
4. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if needed)
  1. Remove any components obstructing access to the power steering pump.
  2. Disconnect the power steering pump from the reservoir and the steering gear.
  3. Remove the mounting bolts and lift the pump out.
  4. Install the new power steering pump and reconnect all hoses.
  5. Refill the reservoir with power steering fluid.
5. Test the System
  1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  2. Start the engine and let it idle.
  3. Turn the steering wheel back and forth to ensure proper function and check for leaks.
