Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Jack and jack stands
    • Wheel chocks
    • Brake line wrench
    • Torque wrench
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and place wheel chocks behind the rear wheels.
  • Gather necessary tools and replacement parts.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on where the leak is suspected.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands to ensure safety.
3. Inspect and Replace Brake Lines or Hoses
  • Inspect: Visually check the brake lines and hoses for any signs of leaks or damage.
  • Replace (if damaged):
    1. Use a brake line wrench to loosen the fitting at both ends of the damaged line or hose.
    2. Remove the old line or hose and discard it.
    3. Install the new brake line or hose, ensuring it is routed correctly and not rubbing against any components.
    4. Tighten the fittings to the manufacturer’s specifications using a torque wrench.
4. Replace Master Cylinder (if necessary)
  • If the master cylinder is leaking:
    1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to avoid electrical shorts.
    2. Remove the brake fluid reservoir cap and drain fluid.
    3. Disconnect brake lines from the master cylinder using a brake line wrench.
    4. Unbolt the master cylinder from the brake booster and remove it.
    5. Install the new master cylinder, tightening bolts to specifications.
    6. Reconnect brake lines and refill with new brake fluid.
5. Bleed the Brake System
  • Use a brake bleeder kit:
    1. Start at the brake furthest from the master cylinder and work towards the closest.
    2. Have an assistant pump the brake pedal while you open and close the bleeder valve at each caliper.
    3. Ensure the brake fluid reservoir stays topped up to prevent air from entering the system.
