Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical short circuits.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, universal joint puller (if necessary)
  • Loosen and remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the differential and transmission.
  • Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the transmission and differential, ensuring not to damage any seals.
3. Replace U-joint
  • Tools Required: U-joint press or hammer, snap ring pliers
  • Position the U-joint in a U-joint press or use a hammer to drive out the old U-joint from the driveshaft.
  • Clean the U-joint fitting areas and replace the old U-joint with a new one, ensuring correct orientation.
  • Secure the new U-joint using snap rings or circlips as applicable.
4. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Align the driveshaft with the transmission and differential, ensuring that the U-joint is properly seated.
  • Reinstall the bolts and torque them to the manufacturer's specifications (typically between 15-25 lb-ft).
  • Reconnect the battery and ensure all tools are removed from under the vehicle.
