Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and parked securely.
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, wheel chocks, and a pry bar.
  • Parts Required: Replacement struts (front and/or rear), strut mounting hardware, and possibly new strut boots.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and place jack stands under the frame for safety.
  • Remove the wheel(s) corresponding to the struts being replaced.
3. Remove the Old Struts
  • Front Struts:

    • Remove the brake line clips and any associated wiring from the strut assembly.
    • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the steering knuckle using a socket.
    • Unbolt the top strut mounting nuts from the engine compartment using a socket.
    • Carefully lower the strut assembly from the vehicle.
  • Rear Struts:

    • Remove any trim or covers that may obstruct access to the rear strut top mounts.
    • Unbolt the bottom of the strut from the rear axle using a socket.
    • Remove the top strut mounting nuts from inside the trunk or rear compartment.
    • Carefully extract the strut from the vehicle.
4. Install the New Struts
  • Compress the new strut's springs using a strut spring compressor if necessary.
  • Align the new strut in the strut tower and secure it with the top mounting nuts.
  • Attach the bottom of the strut to the steering knuckle (front) or rear axle (rear) and torque the bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reinstall any brake lines and wiring that were removed.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheel(s) and lower the vehicle from the jack stands.
  • Torque the wheel lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Final Inspection
  • Double-check all bolts and connections for proper torque.
  • Inspect the vehicle for any tools or parts left behind.
