Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the ignition is off.
2. Check and Replenish Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; it should be between the "MIN" and "MAX" marks.
  • If low, add the manufacturer-recommended fluid (Honda Power Steering Fluid).
3. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Pump (if defective)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, fluid catch pan.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Drain the power steering fluid into the catch pan.
  • Disconnect the power steering lines from the pump.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the pump to the engine.
  • Install the new power steering pump and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 20-25 ft-lbs).
  • Reconnect the power steering lines and refill the system with fluid.
4. Inspect and Replace Steering Rack (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, steering wheel puller, torque wrench.
  • Ensure the vehicle is safely lifted and supported on jack stands.
  • Remove the steering column covers to access the steering shaft.
  • Disconnect the steering shaft from the rack.
  • Remove the mounting bolts securing the steering rack to the subframe.
  • Carefully pull the steering rack out and install the new unit.
  • Torque the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
  • Reconnect the steering shaft and replace the column covers.
5. Final Assembly and Fluid Check
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel left and right to circulate fluid.
  • Check for leaks around the pump and rack.
  • Top off fluid if necessary.
