Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Floor jack and jack stands
    • Socket set
    • Torque wrench
    • Oil catch pan
    • Transmission fluid
    • UV dye kit (if necessary)
  • Raise the vehicle securely using a floor jack and support with jack stands.
  • Ensure the engine is off and cool before starting.
2. Identify and Access the Leak Source
  • If using a UV dye kit, add the dye to the transmission fluid and run the engine for a few minutes to circulate the fluid.
  • Use a UV light to locate the leak source.
  • If the leak is from the transmission pan, proceed to remove it.
3. Remove Transmission Pan
  • Place an oil catch pan under the transmission pan.
  • Remove the bolts securing the transmission pan using the socket set, and gently pry the pan off if it is sealed.
  • Allow the old fluid to drain completely into the catch pan.
4. Inspect and Replace Gasket
  • Clean the mating surfaces of the transmission and pan thoroughly to remove old gasket material.
  • Inspect the transmission pan for any damage or warping.
  • Install a new transmission pan gasket according to manufacturer specifications. Ensure proper alignment.
5. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Position the transmission pan back onto the transmission.
  • Hand-tighten the bolts in a crisscross pattern to ensure even pressure.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque value (usually around 10-12 ft-lbs for most Honda transmissions, but confirm with the service manual).
6. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Locate the transmission fluid dipstick tube.
  • Using a funnel, refill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of fluid as specified in the owner’s manual.
  • Start the engine and let it idle, shifting through all gears to circulate the new fluid. Check the fluid level and add more if necessary.
