Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts before starting the repair.
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set
    • Screwdriver set
    • Torque wrench
    • Pry bar
    • Flashlight (for visibility)
2. Remove Steering Wheel
  1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent airbag deployment.
  2. Remove the airbag module by carefully releasing the clips on the back of the steering wheel.
  3. Disconnect the airbag connectors and set the airbag aside in a safe place.
  4. Use a socket to remove the central nut holding the steering wheel in place.
  5. Mark the position of the steering wheel before removal for correct alignment during reinstallation.
  6. Use a steering wheel puller if necessary to remove the wheel.
3. Inspect and Replace Components
  1. Inspect the steering column for any worn or loose components, particularly the universal joint and bushings.
  2. If the universal joint is damaged, remove it by unscrewing the retaining bolts and replace it with a new part.
  3. Check the condition of the steering column bearings and bushings; replace if worn.
  4. Ensure that all connections are tight and secure.
4. Reassemble Steering Column
  1. Reinstall the steering wheel by aligning it with the marks made earlier.
  2. Tighten the central nut to the manufacturer’s specified torque value (usually around 30-50 ft-lbs).
  3. Reconnect the airbag connectors and carefully reinstall the airbag module.
  4. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
