Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely raised on jack stands.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues.
2. Identify and Remove Faulty Component
  • Oil Filter Replacement:

    1. Place an oil drain pan under the oil filter.
    2. Remove the old oil filter using an oil filter wrench.
    3. Inspect the rubber O-ring for signs of damage.
    4. Apply a thin layer of fresh oil to the new oil filter O-ring.
    5. Install the new oil filter, tightening it by hand until snug.
  • Front Crankshaft Seal Replacement:

    1. Remove the serpentine belt using a belt tensioner tool.
    2. Remove the harmonic balancer using a puller tool.
    3. Remove the old front crankshaft seal using a seal puller.
    4. Clean the sealing surface and install the new seal.
    5. Reinstall the harmonic balancer and torque to manufacturer's specifications.
    6. Reinstall the serpentine belt.
3. Inspect and Replace Timing Cover Gasket (if necessary)
  1. Drain the engine oil and remove the oil pan if necessary.
  2. Remove any components obstructing access to the timing cover (like the alternator or brackets).
  3. Remove the timing cover bolts and gently pry off the timing cover.
  4. Clean the mating surfaces thoroughly.
  5. Install the new timing cover gasket and torque the bolts to specifications.
  6. Reinstall all removed components and refill with new engine oil.
