Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack and jack stands, lug wrench, brake cleaner, brake grease, torque wrench.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and the parking brake is engaged. Wear gloves and safety goggles.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle and support it securely with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using a lug wrench to access the brake components.
3. Remove Brake Components
  • Brake Pads:

    • Remove the caliper bolts using a socket set.
    • Carefully slide the caliper off the rotor and hang it using a bungee cord; do not let it hang by the brake line.
    • Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  • Brake Rotor:

    • If the rotor is damaged or worn, remove the caliper bracket by loosening the bracket bolts.
    • Slide the rotor off the hub; if stuck, tap it gently with a hammer.
4. Inspect and Replace Components
  • Brake Pads:

    • Compare new brake pads with old pads to ensure correct size.
    • Apply brake grease to the backing plate of the new pads to reduce noise.
  • Brake Rotor:

    • Inspect the new rotor for any protective coating; clean it with brake cleaner if necessary.
    • Install the new rotor onto the hub.
5. Reassemble Brake Components
  • Reattach the caliper bracket (if removed) and torque the bolts to manufacturer specifications.
  • Install the new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
  • Reinstall the caliper over the new pads and tighten the caliper bolts to specification.
6. Reinstall Wheel and Lower Vehicle
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
7. Final Check
  • Pump the brake pedal several times to ensure proper pad seating.
  • Check the brake fluid level and top off if necessary.
