Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, fluid catch pan, power steering fluid, funnel, rags.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is off.
2. Inspect and Refill Power Steering Fluid
  • Locate the power steering fluid reservoir.
  • Remove the cap and check the fluid level; it should be between the minimum and maximum marks.
  • If low, add the appropriate type of power steering fluid as specified in the owner's manual.
  • Replace the cap securely after refilling.
3. Check for Leaks
  • Inspect the power steering pump and hoses for signs of wear or damage.
  • Clean any fluid residue with rags to observe if new leaks develop after operating the vehicle.
  • If leaks are found, replace the affected hoses or pump as needed.
4. Bleed the Power Steering System (if applicable)
  • Tools Required: Funnel, power steering fluid.
  • With the engine off, fill the reservoir with power steering fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times to purge air from the system.
  • Check the fluid level again and top off if necessary.
5. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, fluid catch pan, new power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
  • Remove the drive belt from the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the fluid lines from the pump (use a fluid catch pan).
  • Unbolt the pump from its mounting and remove it from the vehicle.
  • Install the new power steering pump in reverse order, ensuring all connections are secure.
  • Refill power steering fluid and bleed the system again.
