Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to elevate the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Confirm that the vehicle is stable before proceeding.
3. Remove the Drive Shaft
  • Using a socket set, remove the bolts securing the drive shaft to the U-joint.
  • Carefully slide the drive shaft out of the transmission and rear differential.
  • Take care not to damage any other components during removal.
4. Inspect and Replace U-joints
  • Inspect the U-joints for play or damage. If they are worn, proceed to replace them.
  • Remove the retaining clips and use a U-joint press or hammer to remove the old U-joint.
  • Lubricate the new U-joint and press it into place using the tool.
  • Reinstall retaining clips to secure the U-joint.
5. Reinstall the Drive Shaft
  • Align the drive shaft with the transmission and rear differential.
  • Secure the drive shaft with bolts. Torque them to manufacturer specifications (refer to service manual for exact torque values).
6. Lower the Vehicle
  • Remove the jack stands and carefully lower the vehicle back to the ground.
7. Final Checks
  • Recheck for any loose bolts or components.
  • Ensure all tools are removed from under the vehicle.
