Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, jack and jack stands, torque wrench, fluid container for fluid disposal.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely parked.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical issues while working on the vehicle.
2. Inspect and Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Remove the power steering reservoir cap.
  • Check the fluid level; if low, top it off with the recommended fluid type.
  • If the fluid is dark or contaminated, drain the old fluid from the system and replace with new fluid.
3. Inspect Suspension Components
  • Raise the front of the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Visually inspect control arms, ball joints, and tie rods for signs of wear or damage.
  • Replace any worn components using the following sub-steps:
    • Ball Joint Replacement:
      1. Remove the wheel and tire assembly.
      2. Unbolt the ball joint from the control arm.
      3. Install the new ball joint and torque to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    • Tie Rod Replacement:
      1. Remove the tie rod end from the steering knuckle.
      2. Replace with a new tie rod and torque to specifications.
4. Inspect and Replace Wheel Bearings
  • Remove the wheel assembly to access the hub.
  • Check for play in the wheel bearings by moving the hub side to side.
  • If worn, replace the bearings:
    1. Remove the hub assembly and press out the old bearings.
    2. Install new bearings and reassemble the hub.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Reinstall the wheel assembly and lower the vehicle.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Test drive the vehicle to ensure the grinding noise is resolved.
