Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and safety equipment.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Allow the engine to cool completely before beginning work.
2. Inspect and Top Off Coolant
  • Remove the radiator cap.
  • Check the coolant level; if low, fill with the appropriate coolant mixture.
  • Inspect for any visible leaks around hoses and connections.
3. Replace Thermostat (if faulty)
  • Remove the thermostat housing bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully detach the thermostat housing and remove the old thermostat.
  • Clean the mating surfaces on the engine and housing.
  • Install the new thermostat making sure it is oriented correctly.
  • Reattach the thermostat housing and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
4. Test ECT Sensor
  • Disconnect the ECT sensor connector.
  • Use a multimeter to measure the resistance of the sensor at various temperatures.
  • Replace the ECT sensor if readings are outside the manufacturer's specifications.
5. Check Cooling Fans
  • Reconnect the battery and start the engine.
  • Allow the engine to reach operating temperature.
  • Verify that the cooling fans engage when the engine reaches the specified temperature.
  • Replace the cooling fan relay or fans if they do not operate correctly.
