Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts required for the repair.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and the engine is cold.
  • Place safety gloves and goggles on.
2. Drain Engine Oil
  • Tools Required: Oil catch pan, socket set, wrench.
  • Place the oil catch pan under the oil pan.
  • Remove the oil drain plug using the socket wrench and allow the oil to completely drain into the catch pan.
  • Replace the drain plug and tighten to manufacturer’s torque specifications.
3. Replace Seals or Gaskets
  • Tools Required: Gasket scraper, RTV sealant, torque wrench.
  • Identify the leaking gasket or seal (e.g., valve cover gasket, oil pan gasket).
  • Remove the components that obstruct access to the gasket or seal.
  • Clean the surfaces with a gasket scraper to remove old gasket material.
  • Apply a bead of RTV sealant (if applicable) and install the new gasket or seal.
  • Reinstall any components that were removed, tightening to manufacturer specifications.
4. Replace Oil Filter (if applicable)
  • Tools Required: Oil filter wrench.
  • Remove the old oil filter using the oil filter wrench.
  • Lubricate the rubber O-ring of the new oil filter with fresh oil.
  • Install the new oil filter by hand until snug, then tighten an additional 3/4 turn.
5. Refill Engine Oil
  • Tools Required: Funnel.
  • Pour the appropriate type and amount of new engine oil into the engine using a funnel.
  • Check the oil level using the dipstick and add oil as necessary.
