Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is turned off.
2. Disconnect Battery
  • Disconnect the negative terminal of the battery to prevent any electrical shorts.
  • Safety Warning: Allow the engine to cool before working on electrical systems.
3. Remove Fuel Tank
  • Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the fuel tank shield (if equipped) by unscrewing bolts using a socket set.
  • Disconnect the fuel lines from the fuel tank using a fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Unbolt the fuel tank straps and carefully lower the fuel tank.
4. Replace or Repair Fuel Level Sensor
  • Locate the fuel level sensor on the top of the fuel pump assembly.
  • Disconnect the wiring harness from the fuel level sensor.
  • Remove the retaining ring securing the fuel pump assembly using a special tool or a hammer and punch (if necessary).
  • Lift out the fuel pump assembly, and replace the fuel level sensor if it is faulty.
  • Reinstall the fuel pump assembly, ensuring the O-ring is seated properly.
5. Reinstall Fuel Tank
  • Position the fuel tank back into place and secure it with the straps.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines ensuring they are properly seated and secured.
  • Reattach the fuel tank shield if applicable.
6. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery.
  • Start the vehicle and check if the fuel gauge operates correctly.
