Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: socket set, multimeter, OBD-II scanner, and electrical contact cleaner.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface, and the engine is off.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Clean Battery Terminals
  • Remove the battery terminals using a socket wrench.
  • Clean the terminals and battery posts using a wire brush.
  • Reconnect the terminals securely, starting with the positive terminal followed by the negative terminal.
3. Test and Replace the Alternator (if necessary)
  • Reconnect the battery and start the engine.
  • Use a multimeter to measure the voltage at the battery terminals; it should read 13.7 to 14.7 volts.
  • If the voltage is below this range, remove the alternator:
    • Disconnect all electrical connections from the alternator.
    • Remove the serpentine belt from the alternator pulley.
    • Unscrew the alternator mounting bolts and remove the alternator.
  • Install a new alternator, reversing the above steps, and ensure all connections are tight.
4. Inspect and Repair Wiring
  • Visually inspect the headlight wiring harness for frayed wires or corrosion.
  • If damaged, repair or replace the wiring harness as necessary.
  • Use electrical contact cleaner to clean any corroded connections in the wiring.
5. Replace Headlight Bulbs (if necessary)
  • Open the hood and locate the headlight assembly.
  • Remove the headlight assembly from the vehicle by unscrewing the retaining screws.
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the headlight bulb.
  • Replace the bulb with a new one, making sure it is compatible with the Mustang.
  • Reconnect the electrical connector and reinstall the headlight assembly.
