Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, C-clamp, socket set, torque wrench, brake cleaner, bungee cord or rope.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and set the parking brake.
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front or rear wheels slightly (do not remove them yet).
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
2. Remove the Wheel
  • Remove the lug nuts completely and take off the wheel.
  • Place the wheel aside for later reinstallation.
3. Remove the Brake Caliper
  • Locate the caliper bolts (usually two) on the back of the caliper.
  • Use a socket wrench to remove these bolts.
  • Carefully lift the caliper off the brake rotor. Do NOT let it hang by the brake line; use a bungee cord to secure it to the suspension.
4. Remove Old Brake Pads
  • Slide the old brake pads out of the caliper bracket.
  • Inspect the caliper bracket and rotor for any damage or excessive wear.
5. Compress the Caliper Piston
  • Use a C-clamp to compress the caliper piston back into the caliper housing. Place the clamp over the old brake pad against the piston and tighten the clamp slowly until the piston is fully retracted.
6. Install New Brake Pads
  • Insert the new brake pads into the caliper bracket. Ensure they are positioned correctly and match the old pads' orientation.
  • Apply a thin layer of brake grease to the back of the new pads to minimize noise.
7. Reinstall the Brake Caliper
  • Place the caliper back over the new pads and align it with the caliper bracket.
  • Reinstall the caliper bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer’s torque specifications (usually around 20-30 ft-lbs).
8. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer's specifications (usually around 100-150 ft-lbs).
9. Final Checks
  • Pump the brake pedal a few times to ensure the caliper pistons are seated properly against the new pads.
  • Check the brake fluid level and add fluid if necessary.
