Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather Tools: OBD-II scanner, socket set, screwdrivers, coolant, thermometer, multimeter, safety glasses, and gloves.
  • Safety Warning: Ensure the engine is cool before commencing any work.
2. Replace the Thermostat (if faulty)
  1. Remove the thermostat housing:
    • Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
    • Drain the coolant into a suitable container.
    • Unbolt the thermostat housing using a socket set and remove it carefully.
  2. Replace the thermostat:
    • Remove the old thermostat and clean the mating surface.
    • Install the new thermostat ensuring it is oriented correctly.
  3. Reinstall the housing:
    • Apply new gasket material if required, then bolt the housing back in place.
    • Torque bolts to the manufacturer's specifications (check service manual for correct value).
3. Flush the Radiator
  1. Drain the coolant:
    • Open the drain valve at the bottom of the radiator and allow the coolant to drain completely.
  2. Flush the system:
    • Attach a garden hose to the radiator fill neck and run water through it until the water runs clear.
  3. Refill with fresh coolant:
    • Close the drain valve and fill the radiator with a 50/50 mix of coolant and distilled water.
4. Replace the Water Pump (if faulty)
  1. Remove the serpentine belt:
    • Use a wrench to relieve tension on the tensioner and slip the belt off the water pump pulley.
  2. Unbolt the water pump:
    • Remove any hoses connected to the pump, then unbolt the water pump from the engine block.
  3. Install the new water pump:
    • Clean the mount surface, apply new gasket, and bolt the new pump in place.
    • Reconnect hoses and install the serpentine belt.
