Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, OBD-II scanner, jack and jack stands, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid any electrical issues during the repair.
2. Inspect and Replace Steering Components

1. Steering Linkage Inspection

  • Visually inspect the steering linkage for damage, looseness, or wear.
  • If any components are damaged, proceed to replace them.

2. Power Steering Fluid Check

  • Locate the power steering reservoir and check the fluid level.
  • If low, top off with the manufacturer-recommended fluid. If dirty or contaminated, replace it.

3. Tie Rod and Ball Joint Inspection

  • Jack up the vehicle and support it securely with jack stands.
  • Check the tie rod ends for play by attempting to move them laterally.
  • Check ball joints by grabbing the wheel at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and rocking it back and forth. Replace if there is noticeable movement.

4. Steering Gear Test

  • With the vehicle still elevated, have an assistant turn the steering wheel while you observe the steering gear for excessive movement.
  • If excessive play is detected, replace the steering gear assembly.

5. Suspension Component Inspection

  • While the vehicle is lifted, inspect suspension components (control arms, bushings, etc.) for wear.
  • Replace any worn or damaged components.
3. Reassembly
  • Reinstall any components removed during inspection.
  • Reconnect the battery and ensure all tools are removed from under the vehicle.
