Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, jack and jack stands, transmission fluid, drain pan.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Place a drain pan underneath the transmission to catch any fluid.
2. Remove Transmission Fluid
  • Remove the transmission pan bolts using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully lower the pan and allow the fluid to drain completely into the pan.
  • Clean the transmission pan and replace the filter if necessary.
3. Remove the Transmission
  • Disconnect any electrical connectors attached to the transmission.
  • Remove the drive shafts by unbolting them at the differential and transmission.
  • Unbolt the transmission mount and support the transmission with a transmission jack.
  • Unbolt the bellhousing from the engine, ensuring all bolts are removed.
  • Carefully lower the transmission from the engine and slide it out.
4. Remove the Torque Converter
  • With the transmission removed, locate the torque converter attached to the flexplate.
  • Unbolt the torque converter from the flexplate using a socket wrench.
  • Carefully slide the torque converter off the input shaft of the transmission.
5. Install the New Torque Converter
  • Lubricate the front pump seal of the new torque converter with transmission fluid.
  • Align the torque converter with the input shaft and slide it onto the shaft. Ensure it is fully seated.
  • Bolt the torque converter to the flexplate securely.
6. Reinstall the Transmission
  • Align the transmission with the engine and carefully raise it back into position using the transmission jack.
  • Reinstall the bellhousing bolts, ensuring they are torqued to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reconnect any electrical connectors and the transmission mount.
  • Reinstall the drive shafts by bolting them back into place.
7. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Replace the transmission pan and gasket, ensuring a proper seal.
  • Refill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of transmission fluid as per manufacturer specifications.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the battery terminal and ensure all connections are secure.
