Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: OBD-II scanner, multimeter, socket set, cleaning supplies (throttle body cleaner), torque wrench, safety gloves.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Clean the Throttle Body
  • Remove the throttle body from the intake manifold:
    1. Unplug the electrical connectors.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the throttle body using a socket set.
  • Clean the throttle body:
    1. Use throttle body cleaner and a soft brush.
    2. Wipe down all surfaces, ensuring no carbon deposits remain.
  • Reinstall the throttle body:
    1. Position the throttle body back in place and tighten bolts to manufacturer's specified torque (generally around 15-20 lb-ft).
    2. Reconnect the electrical connectors.
3. Replace Throttle Position Sensor (if faulty)
  • If TPS readings were out of specification:
    1. Remove the TPS from the throttle body.
    2. Install the new TPS in place, ensuring it aligns correctly with the throttle plate.
    3. Secure it with the screws and connect the wiring harness.
4. Reset the Throttle Position
  • After repairs, reset the throttle position:
    1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal.
    2. Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine for about 10 seconds.
    3. Start the engine and allow it to idle until warm, then rev the engine to calibrate the throttle response.
