Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor (if replacing struts), and a fluid catch pan.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheels with a lug wrench.
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the front wheels.
3. Remove the Struts
  • Upper Mount: Locate the upper strut mount inside the engine bay or under the dash, depending on the design. Remove the bolts using a socket set.
  • Lower Mount: Remove the bolts from the lower strut mount connected to the steering knuckle.
  • Disconnect Components: If necessary, disconnect any brake line clips or sway bar links attached to the strut.
  • Carefully remove the strut assembly from the vehicle.
4. Replace or Repair Struts
  • Inspect Strut: If the strut is leaking, it needs to be replaced. Use a strut spring compressor to safely remove the spring from the strut.
  • Install New Strut: If replacing, install the new strut assembly by reversing the disassembly steps. Ensure the strut is positioned correctly and properly aligned with the mount holes.
  • Torque Specifications: Tighten all mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Reattach the wheels and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground using the jack.
  • Once on the ground, torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Final Inspection
  • Check for any fluid leaks around the new struts.
  • Ensure everything is tightened and secure.
