Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, pry bar, torque wrench
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the battery before starting any repair. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely lifted.
2. Remove Wheel
  1. Loosen the lug nuts on the front wheel using a socket.
  2. Lift the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  3. Remove the wheel completely.
3. Remove Ball Joint
  1. Remove any components obstructing access to the ball joint, such as the brake caliper or rotor if necessary.
  2. Use a socket to remove the nut securing the ball joint to the control arm.
  3. Use a ball joint separator tool to detach the ball joint from the steering knuckle.
4. Inspect and Clean
  1. Examine the ball joint for wear, and if necessary, clean the area around the ball joint mount to prepare for installation of a new joint.
  2. If the ball joint is in poor condition, replace it with a new one.
5. Install New Ball Joint
  1. Position the new ball joint into the control arm.
  2. Secure it using the original nut and tighten to the manufacturer's specified torque (check service manual for exact torque specs).
  3. Reattach any components that were removed, such as the brake caliper and rotor.
6. Reinstall Wheel
  1. Place the wheel back onto the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  2. Lower the vehicle from the jack stands and securely tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
