Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a level surface and the engine is cool.
  • Disconnect the battery negative terminal for safety.
2. Inspect and Replace Gas Cap
  • Remove the gas cap and inspect for cracks or wear.
  • If defective, replace with a new gas cap that meets OEM specifications.
  • Ensure that the replacement cap clicks securely when installed.
3. Check EVAP System Components
  • Locate the EVAP canister and inspect for any visible damage.
  • Test the purge valve by applying voltage to it and ensuring it opens and closes properly.
  • If the purge valve is faulty, replace it with a new unit.
4. Test Fuel System
  • Attach a fuel pressure gauge to the fuel rail and turn the ignition to the ON position (do not start).
  • Check that the fuel pressure is within the specifications for the F-150.
  • If pressure is low, inspect the fuel pump and replace if necessary.
5. Clear Codes and Test Drive
  • Reconnect the battery terminal.
  • Use the OBD-II scanner to clear any existing codes.
  • Start the engine and perform a test drive to ensure the check engine light does not reappear.
