Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, grease gun, U-joint removal tool, safety glasses, gloves.
  • Raise the vehicle securely using a jack and place jack stands under the frame to ensure stability.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves for protection.
2. Remove the Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Mark the position of the driveshaft relative to the differential and transmission for reinstallation.
    2. Using a socket set, remove the bolts securing the U-joint to the driveshaft and axle.
    3. Carefully slide the driveshaft out of the transmission and set it aside.
3. Remove the U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a U-joint removal tool to press out the U-joint from the yoke.
    2. If the U-joint is particularly stubborn, apply penetrating oil and let it sit briefly before attempting removal again.
4. Install the New U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Lubricate the new U-joint with grease.
    2. Align the new U-joint in the yoke and press it in using the removal tool to ensure a snug fit.
    3. Reinstall the retaining clips to secure the U-joint.
5. Reinstall the Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Align the driveshaft back to the marks made during removal.
    2. Secure the driveshaft to the transmission and axle using the original bolts.
    3. Torque the bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
6. Lower the Vehicle and Test Drive
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle.
    2. Start the engine and take the vehicle for a test drive to ensure the issue is resolved.
