Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set (including 8mm and 10mm sockets)
    • Torque wrench
    • Spark plug socket (with rubber insert)
    • Ratchet
    • Extension bar
    • Anti-seize compound
    • Dielectric grease
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
    2. Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
    3. Allow the engine to cool completely to avoid burns.
2. Remove Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Use a socket set to remove the bolts securing the engine cover.
    2. Carefully lift the cover off and set it aside.
3. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the tab and pulling the connector off.
    2. Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using the appropriate socket.
    3. Gently pull each ignition coil out of the spark plug well.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Using the spark plug socket, carefully unscrew each spark plug from the cylinder head.
    2. Inspect the removed spark plugs for wear patterns to diagnose potential engine issues.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (if not pre-coated).
    2. Carefully thread each new spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
    3. Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer-recommended torque specification (typically around 13-15 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots.
    2. Insert each ignition coil back into its respective spark plug well.
    3. Reattach the bolts to secure the ignition coils.
    4. Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil.
7. Reinstall Engine Cover
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Place the engine cover back in position.
    2. Secure the cover with the bolts using the socket set.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Reconnect the negative battery terminal and tighten it securely.
