Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, socket set, wrench set, U-joint removal tool, grease gun, safety glasses.
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely supported with jack stands before working underneath.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  1. Loosen Bolts: Use the socket set to loosen and remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the rear differential and transmission.
  2. Support Driveshaft: Carefully support the driveshaft while removing it to prevent it from falling.
  3. Remove Driveshaft: Slide the driveshaft out of the transmission or rear differential.
3. Inspect and Replace U-Joints
  1. Remove U-Joint Clips: Use a U-joint removal tool to press out the U-joint clips (if applicable) retaining the U-joint in place.
  2. Press Out Old U-Joint: With the U-joint tool, press the old U-joint out of the yoke.
  3. Install New U-Joint: Align the new U-joint with the yoke and press it into place. Ensure it is seated properly.
  4. Reinstall Clips: Insert the retaining clips back into the yoke to secure the new U-joint.
4. Reinstall Driveshaft
  1. Align Driveshaft: Align the driveshaft with the rear differential and transmission mounts.
  2. Tighten Bolts: Using the socket set, reinstall the bolts and tighten them to the manufacturer’s specified torque settings.
  3. Check for Proper Operation: Once everything is reassembled, double-check that all components are secure.
