Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts. Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and secured with wheel chocks.
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, torque wrench, ball joint separator, and grease gun.
2. Remove Wheel
  • Loosen the lug nuts slightly while the vehicle is on the ground.
  • Lift the vehicle with a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel by unscrewing the lug nuts completely.
3. Remove the Ball Joint
  • If necessary, detach components: Remove any suspension components blocking access to the ball joint (e.g., sway bar links).
  • Use a ball joint separator tool to detach the ball joint from the control arm.
  • Note: If the ball joint is pressed in, you may need to use a hydraulic press to remove it.
4. Install New Ball Joint
  • Clean the mounting area on the control arm.
  • Align the new ball joint in position and press it in using a hydraulic press if applicable.
  • Reattach the ball joint to the steering knuckle and secure with the appropriate hardware.
5. Reassemble
  • Reattach any components that were removed (e.g., sway bar links).
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the recommended setting.
