Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, socket set, wrench set, U-joint puller, grease gun, safety goggles, gloves.
  • Raise the vehicle using a jack and secure it with jack stands.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a level surface and the parking brake is engaged.
2. Remove Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Locate the driveshaft and identify the U-joint connections.
    2. Using the socket set, remove the bolts securing the driveshaft to the transmission and rear axle.
    3. Carefully slide the driveshaft out from the U-joint connection and set it aside.
3. Remove U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Using a U-joint puller, press the U-joint out of its yoke.
    2. If necessary, use a hammer and socket to tap out the U-joint bearings.
    3. Clean the yoke surfaces with a clean cloth to remove any debris or old grease.
4. Install New U-joint
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Apply a small amount of grease to the new U-joint before installation.
    2. Position the new U-joint into the yoke, ensuring proper alignment.
    3. Use the U-joint puller to press the new U-joint into place securely.
5. Reinstall Driveshaft
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Slide the driveshaft back into position, aligning it with the U-joint.
    2. Reattach the bolts to the transmission and rear axle, tightening to the manufacturer’s specified torque (generally around 15-20 ft-lbs).
    3. Ensure all components are secure and properly aligned.
