Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat, level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.

Tools Required:

  • Socket set
  • Torque wrench
  • Jack and jack stands
  • Wrench set
  • Fluid catch pan
  • Shop towels
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle at the designated lift points.
  • Secure the vehicle with jack stands for safety.
3. Remove the Old Shock Absorber
  • a. Loosen the bolts: Use a socket wrench to loosen and remove the upper and lower mounting bolts of the shock absorber.
  • b. Remove the shock: Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mounting location. If it is stuck, gently twist or tap it free.
4. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • a. Position the new shock: Align the new shock absorber in the mounting location.
  • b. Secure the shock: Install the lower mounting bolt first, followed by the upper bolt. Hand-tighten the bolts initially.
  • c. Torque the bolts: Use a torque wrench to tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer’s specified torque values (typically 50-70 ft-lbs, but verify in the service manual).
5. Lower the Vehicle
  • Carefully remove the jack stands and lower the vehicle back to the ground.
6. Dispose of Old Parts
  • Place the old shock absorber in a fluid catch pan for proper disposal.
