Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather required tools and parts.
  • Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface and securely raised with jack stands.
  • Wear safety gloves and goggles.
2. Inspect and Replace Brake Pads
  1. Remove the wheel using a lug wrench.
  2. Remove the brake caliper by unscrewing the caliper bolts with a socket wrench.
  3. Slide the caliper off the rotor and support it without stretching the brake line.
  4. Remove the old brake pads from the caliper bracket.
  5. Compare new brake pads with old ones to ensure proper fit.
  6. Install new brake pads into the caliper bracket.
3. Inspect and Resurface or Replace Rotors
  1. Measure rotor thickness with a micrometer to ensure it’s within specifications.
  2. If warped, either resurface the rotors or replace them:
    • For resurfacing, use a brake lathe according to manufacturer specifications.
    • For replacement, remove the rotor by unscrewing the retaining screws and sliding it off the hub.
  3. Install the new or resurfaced rotor onto the hub.
4. Reassemble Brake Components
  1. Reinstall the brake caliper over the new pads and rotor.
  2. Tighten the caliper bolts to manufacturer’s torque specifications.
  3. Reinstall the wheel and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  4. Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to the specified value.
5. Test Brake System
  1. Pump the brake pedal a few times to seat the pads against the rotor.
  2. Check for any leaks in the brake system.
  3. Conduct a test drive to ensure the shaking is resolved.
