Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather all necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to prevent any electrical issues.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front of the F-150 and place jack stands under the frame for safety.
  • Remove the front wheels using a socket set.
3. Remove the Old Tie Rod Ends
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, hammer, tie rod end puller.
  • Locate the outer tie rod end at the steering knuckle.
  • Remove the cotter pin and castle nut from the tie rod end using a wrench.
  • Use a tie rod end puller to separate the tie rod end from the steering knuckle. Tap the puller with a hammer if necessary.
  • Unscrew the inner tie rod end from the steering rack using a wrench.
4. Install the New Tie Rod Ends
  • Parts Required: New outer and inner tie rod ends.
  • Apply anti-seize lubricant on the threads of the new tie rod ends.
  • Screw the new inner tie rod end onto the steering rack. Tighten to manufacturer specifications (typically around 35-50 ft-lbs).
  • Attach the outer tie rod end to the steering knuckle and secure it with the castle nut. Tighten to specifications (typically around 35-40 ft-lbs).
  • Insert a new cotter pin to secure the castle nut.
5. Reassemble
  • Reinstall the front wheels and tighten lug nuts to the specified torque (usually 100-150 ft-lbs).
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground and reconnect the battery.
