Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts.
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, jack, jack stands, pry bar, and a wheel chock.
  • Parts Required: New struts, strut mounts, and any necessary hardware.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the front or rear of the vehicle, depending on which struts are being replaced.
  • Place jack stands under the vehicle to secure it safely.
3. Remove the Wheel
  • Using a socket set, remove the lug nuts and take off the wheel to access the strut assembly.
4. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Disconnect any brake line brackets or ABS sensor wires attached to the strut.
  • Remove the bolts securing the strut to the wheel hub assembly using a socket.
  • Go to the engine bay and locate the strut mount nuts on the top of the strut tower; remove these using the socket set.
5. Compress the Spring
  • Carefully use a strut spring compressor to compress the coil spring to relieve tension.
  • Once compressed, remove the top nut on the strut mount using a socket, then carefully remove the strut from the spring.
6. Install the New Strut
  • Place the new strut into the spring and align it with the strut mount.
  • Reinstall the top mount nut and tighten it to the manufacturer’s specifications.
  • Carefully release the spring compressor.
7. Reattach the Strut Assembly
  • Position the strut back into the vehicle and align it with the wheel hub assembly.
  • Reinstall the bolts securing the strut to the wheel hub and torque to manufacturer specifications.
  • Reattach any brake line brackets or ABS sensor wires that were disconnected.
8. Reinstall the Wheel
  • Place the wheel back on the hub and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle and then torque the lug nuts to specification.
9. Repeat on Other Side
  • If replacing both struts, repeat steps 2-8 for the other side.
