Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, ratchet, spark plug socket, torque wrench, extension bar, dielectric grease, anti-seize compound.
  • Safety Warnings: Disconnect the battery before starting work to avoid electrical shorts.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Remove any engine cover by unscrewing the bolts using a socket set.
  • Carefully lift the cover off and set it aside.
3. Access the Spark Plugs
  • Locate the spark plug wires or coil packs on top of the engine.
  • If your F-150 has coil packs, remove each coil by unscrewing the bolts and carefully lifting them off.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from the coil packs.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen and remove each spark plug from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect the removed plugs for wear and compare them to specifications.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs.
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs and adjust as needed.
  • Carefully thread each spark plug into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading, then tighten with the torque wrench to the manufacturer's specifications (typically around 11-15 ft-lbs).
6. Reinstall Coil Packs (or Spark Plug Wires)
  • Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the coil pack boots (if applicable).
  • Reinstall coil packs or spark plug wires, ensuring they are seated properly.
  • Reattach any electrical connectors to the coil packs.
7. Reattach Engine Cover
  • Place the engine cover back and secure it with the screws removed earlier.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
