Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, spark plug socket, extension, ratchet, dielectric grease, anti-seize compound, and a feeler gauge.
  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Locate and remove any screws or fasteners securing the engine cover.
  • Gently lift the engine cover off and set it aside.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Locate the ignition coil packs on top of the engine.
  • Disconnect the electrical connectors from each ignition coil by pressing the tab and pulling the connector off.
4. Remove Ignition Coils
  • Use a socket wrench to remove the bolts holding the ignition coils in place.
  • Carefully pull each ignition coil out of the spark plug well.
5. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use a spark plug socket and ratchet to loosen and remove the old spark plugs from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect the removed spark plugs for wear or damage.
6. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (optional).
  • Check the gap on the new spark plugs with a feeler gauge and adjust if necessary.
  • Hand-thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use a torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically around 13-15 lb-ft).
7. Reinstall Ignition Coils
  • Apply dielectric grease to the inside of the ignition coil boots to facilitate future removal.
  • Reinsert each ignition coil into its respective spark plug well and secure with bolts.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil, ensuring they click into place.
8. Replace Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Reinstall the engine cover by aligning it and securing it with screws or fasteners.
9. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative battery terminal and ensure it is tight.
