Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the vehicle battery to ensure safety.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay from the fuse box and starting the engine until it stalls.
2. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, fuel line disconnect tool.
  • Raise the vehicle and support it securely with jack stands.
  • Remove the fuel tank by:
    1. Disconnecting the fuel lines using the fuel line disconnect tool.
    2. Disconnecting the electrical connectors from the fuel pump.
    3. Unbolting the fuel tank straps and lowering the tank carefully.
3. Remove and Replace the Fuel Pump
  • Tools Required: Pliers, rubber mallet (optional).
  • Remove the fuel pump assembly from the fuel tank:
    1. Unscrew the retaining ring that holds the pump in place.
    2. Carefully lift the pump assembly out of the tank.
  • Install the new fuel pump:
    1. Lubricate the O-ring on the new pump with clean fuel.
    2. Insert the new pump into the tank and secure it with the retaining ring.
4. Reinstall the Fuel Tank
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to the fuel pump.
  • Reattach the fuel lines, ensuring they are secure.
  • Raise the fuel tank back into position and reattach the tank straps.
  • Reconnect the fuel pump relay and any other components removed during disassembly.
5. Final Checks
  • Reconnect the vehicle battery.
  • Turn the ignition key to the "ON" position without starting the engine to prime the fuel system, then check for leaks.
  • Start the engine and ensure it runs smoothly.
