Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a level surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Allow the vehicle to cool down before beginning any work.
2. Drain Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Socket set, drain pan
  • Locate the transmission pan and place the drain pan underneath it.
  • Remove the bolts securing the transmission pan using the socket set.
  • Carefully lower the pan to drain the old transmission fluid.
3. Inspect and Replace Gasket/Seals
  • Inspect the transmission pan gasket for any signs of wear or damage.
  • Clean the transmission pan and the mating surface on the transmission with a solvent to remove any residual gasket material.
  • If the gasket is damaged, replace it with a new one.
  • Additionally, check and replace any worn or damaged seals around the input and output shafts.
4. Reinstall Transmission Pan
  • Place the clean transmission pan back onto the transmission.
  • Install the new gasket and secure the pan with bolts, tightening them to the manufacturer’s specified torque (usually around 12-15 ft-lbs, but verify with service manual).
  • Ensure all bolts are tightened evenly to prevent leaks.
5. Refill Transmission Fluid
  • Tools Required: Funnel
  • Refill the transmission with the appropriate type and amount of fluid (check owner’s manual; typically, Mercon LV for this model).
  • Use a funnel to add fluid through the dipstick tube, checking fluid levels as you go.
6. Test for Leaks
  • Start the vehicle and allow it to reach normal operating temperature.
  • Shift through all gears and check for leaks around the transmission pan and seals.
  • If no leaks are present, the repair is complete.
