Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the battery to avoid electrical issues while working.
2. Raise the Vehicle
  • Use a jack to lift the vehicle at the appropriate jacking points.
  • Secure with jack stands for safety.
  • Remove the wheels for easier access to the shocks if necessary.
3. Remove the Faulty Shock Absorber
  • Tools Required: Socket set, wrench set, torque wrench
  • Locate the upper and lower mounting bolts of the shock absorber.
  • Using the socket wrench, remove the upper bolt first, followed by the lower bolt.
  • Carefully pull the shock absorber out of its mount, ensuring no other components are damaged during removal.
4. Install the New Shock Absorber
  • Parts Required: New shock absorber
  • Align the new shock absorber with the mounting points.
  • Insert the lower bolt and tighten it to the manufacturer's specified torque value (typically around 40-50 ft-lbs).
  • Attach the upper bolt and also tighten it to the specified torque.
5. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  • Replace the wheel if removed and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  • Lower the vehicle back to the ground, then fully tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque.
  • Reconnect the battery.
