Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery (negative terminal) to ensure safety while working on electrical components.
  • Relieve fuel system pressure by removing the fuel pump relay and running the engine until it stalls.
2. Access the Fuel Pump
  • Tools Required: Socket set, screwdrivers, safety glasses, fuel line disconnect tool (if applicable).
  • Remove the rear seat or access panel to reach the fuel pump access cover.
  • Unscrew the access cover and carefully set it aside.
3. Remove the Fuel Pump
  • Disconnect the electrical connector from the fuel pump by pressing the release tab and pulling it out.
  • Use the fuel line disconnect tool to detach the fuel lines from the pump. Be prepared for some fuel spillage; use a rag to catch any excess fuel.
  • Unscrew the fuel pump retaining ring using a hammer and a punch if necessary to loosen it.
  • Lift the fuel pump assembly out of the tank carefully.
4. Install the New Fuel Pump
  • Inspect the old fuel pump for damage and compare it with the new one.
  • Place a new O-ring (if provided) on the new fuel pump assembly.
  • Insert the new fuel pump into the tank and secure it with the retaining ring, ensuring it is tight but not over-torqued.
  • Reconnect the fuel lines and electrical connectors to the fuel pump.
5. Reassemble and Test
  • Replace the access cover and any seats or panels removed during the process.
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Turn the ignition to the "ON" position without starting the engine to prime the fuel system, then check for leaks.
  • Start the engine and verify proper operation.
