Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather necessary tools and parts.
  • Disconnect the battery to ensure safety during repair.
  • Allow the engine to cool if it has been running.
2. Check Power Steering Fluid
  • Tools Required: Fluid pump, funnel, power steering fluid.
  • Inspect the power steering fluid reservoir; if low, add the manufacturer-recommended power steering fluid.
  • If fluid is dirty or contaminated, proceed to replace it.
3. Replace Power Steering Fluid
  • Drain the old power steering fluid using a fluid pump.
  • Refill the reservoir with new power steering fluid.
  • Start the engine and turn the steering wheel from lock to lock to purge air from the system.
4. Replace Power Steering Pump (if necessary)
  • Tools Required: Socket set, torque wrench, pulley puller.
  • Remove the serpentine belt from the power steering pump.
  • Disconnect the power steering hoses (use a container to catch any leaking fluid).
  • Remove the mounting bolts of the power steering pump and take the pump out.
  • Install the new power steering pump, tighten the mounting bolts to the manufacturer's specified torque.
  • Reconnect the power steering hoses and serpentine belt.
5. Test the Steering System
  • Reconnect the battery.
  • Start the engine and check for leaks around the power steering pump and hoses.
  • Test the steering assist by turning the steering wheel; it should feel smooth and responsive.
