Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools: socket set, ratchet, serpentine belt tool (or a wrench), and a flashlight.
  • Park the vehicle on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
  • Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
2. Remove the Old Serpentine Belt
  • Use the serpentine belt tool to relieve tension on the belt by rotating the tensioner pulley counterclockwise.
  • While holding the tensioner, slide the belt off one of the pulleys (preferably the alternator or power steering pulley).
  • Carefully release the tensioner back to its resting position.
  • Remove the belt from all pulleys, taking note of the routing for installation of the new belt.
3. Inspect Components
  • Check the idler pulley and tensioner for wear; replace if necessary.
  • Clean the pulleys with a clean cloth to remove any debris or contaminants.
4. Install the New Serpentine Belt
  • Refer to the belt routing diagram, usually found on the engine bay or in the owner's manual.
  • Begin threading the new belt over the pulleys, making sure to follow the correct routing.
  • Use the serpentine belt tool again to rotate the tensioner and slide the belt over the last pulley.
  • Ensure the belt is seated properly on all pulleys.
5. Reconnect Battery and Test
  • Reconnect the negative battery cable.
  • Start the engine and observe the belt in operation. Check for proper alignment and listen for any unusual noises.
