Solution
1. Preparation
  • Gather tools and parts needed.
  • Tools Required:
    • Socket set (including 5/8 inch spark plug socket)
    • Torque wrench
    • Ratchet
    • Extension bar
    • Pliers
    • Wire brush or compressed air
  • Parts Required:
    • New spark plugs (OEM recommended)
  • Safety Warnings:
    • Disconnect the battery before starting work to prevent electrical shock.
2. Remove Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Locate the engine cover and remove any screws or bolts securing it.
  • Carefully lift the engine cover off and set it aside.
3. Access Spark Plugs
  • Locate the ignition coils on top of the engine where the spark plugs are housed.
  • For each cylinder, disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil by pressing the release tab and pulling it off.
  • Remove the bolts securing the ignition coils using the socket set and lift the coils out to expose the spark plugs.
4. Remove Old Spark Plugs
  • Use the spark plug socket and ratchet to carefully unscrew and remove the old spark plugs from the cylinder head.
  • Inspect the old spark plugs for wear patterns or damage as a diagnostic reference.
5. Install New Spark Plugs
  • Apply a small amount of anti-seize compound to the threads of the new spark plugs (if not pre-coated).
  • Carefully thread the new spark plugs into the cylinder head by hand to avoid cross-threading.
  • Use the torque wrench to tighten the spark plugs to the manufacturer’s specifications (typically 13-15 lb-ft).
6. Reinstall Ignition Coils and Connectors
  • Place the ignition coils back onto the spark plugs and secure them with their bolts.
  • Reconnect the electrical connectors to each ignition coil until they click into place.
7. Reattach Engine Cover (if applicable)
  • Position the engine cover back into place and secure it with the screws or bolts previously removed.
8. Reconnect Battery
  • Reconnect the negative terminal of the battery and ensure it is tightened securely.
