Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Clean lint-free cloth, funnel, transmission fluid (Mercon LV for Ford).
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the engine is running and at operating temperature. Wear gloves to protect your hands from hot fluids.
2. Check Fluid Level
  • Step 1: With the engine running, shift through all gears (P, R, N, D, and back to P) to circulate the fluid.
  • Step 2: Locate the transmission dipstick and pull it out. Wipe it clean with a lint-free cloth.
  • Step 3: Fully reinsert the dipstick, then pull it out again to check the fluid level against the markings on the dipstick.
  • Step 4: If the fluid level is below the "Full" mark, use a funnel to add the proper Mercon LV transmission fluid until it reaches the correct level.
3. Inspect Fluid Condition
  • Step 1: Observe the color of the fluid on the dipstick; it should be bright red.
  • Step 2: Smell the fluid; it should not have a burnt odor. If it does, the fluid may need to be replaced.
  • Step 3: If the fluid is dark or has debris, consider a complete fluid change.
