Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack and jack stands, lug wrench, socket set, torque wrench, strut spring compressor, impact wrench (optional).
  • Safety Warnings: Ensure the vehicle is on a flat surface. Use wheel chocks to prevent rolling. Wear safety goggles and gloves.
2. Lift the Vehicle
  • Use the jack to lift the vehicle and secure it on jack stands.
  • Remove the wheel using the lug wrench.
3. Remove the Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Disconnect the brake line from the strut using a wrench to avoid damage.
    2. Remove any clips or brackets holding the strut in place.
    3. Unscrew the top strut mount bolts located under the hood, ensuring the hood is securely propped open.
    4. Remove the lower strut bolts connecting the strut to the steering knuckle.
    5. Carefully extract the strut assembly from the vehicle.
4. Replace Strut Components
  • If only the strut is worn, use a strut spring compressor to carefully compress the spring on the old strut.
  • Remove the top nut of the strut mount and slide the spring off.
  • Install the spring onto the new strut and tighten the top nut to manufacturer specifications.
  • If necessary, replace the strut mount as well.
5. Reinstall the Strut Assembly
  • Sub-steps:
    1. Position the new strut assembly into the strut tower and connect it to the steering knuckle.
    2. Torque the lower strut bolts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
    3. Reattach the brake line and any clips or brackets.
    4. Secure the top mount bolts and torque them to specifications.
6. Reassemble the Vehicle
  • Reinstall the wheel and tighten the lug nuts in a star pattern to the specified torque.
  • Lower the vehicle and perform a final inspection to ensure everything is secure.
