Solution
1. Preparation
  • Tools Required: Jack, jack stands, wheel chocks, socket set, torque wrench, stethoscope (optional).
  • Ensure the vehicle is parked on a flat surface and engage the parking brake.
2. Elevate the Vehicle
  1. Use a jack to lift the vehicle and secure it with jack stands.
  2. Remove the wheel using a socket set.
3. Inspect the Wheel Bearing
  1. Visual Inspection: Look for any signs of damage or rust on the wheel bearing.
  2. Check for Play: Grasp the tire at the 12 o'clock and 6 o'clock positions and shake. Any movement indicates a worn bearing.
4. Remove the Wheel Bearing (if necessary)
  1. If a bearing replacement is needed, remove the brake caliper and rotor to access the wheel hub.
  2. Unbolt the wheel bearing assembly from the hub using the appropriate socket sizes.
  3. Carefully pull the wheel bearing out of the hub assembly.
5. Install New Wheel Bearing
  1. Clean the bearing housing thoroughly.
  2. Apply a thin layer of grease to the new wheel bearing.
  3. Carefully press the new bearing into the hub using a bearing press.
  4. Reattach the wheel bearing assembly to the hub and torque the bolts to the manufacturer's specifications.
6. Reassemble and Lower the Vehicle
  1. Reinstall the brake rotor and caliper.
  2. Put the wheel back on and hand-tighten the lug nuts.
  3. Lower the vehicle and torque the lug nuts to the manufacturer’s specifications.
